Robert Mirek (born 1957) is a Detroit-based painter and sculptor whose work explores abstract forms, mythic themes, and symbolic systems. Over the past four decades, he has developed a personal visual language that emerges through a non-linear, intuitive process. His imagery often feels like a dialogue with the subconscious, balancing structure and spontaneity, order and ambiguity.
Mirek works with materials such as plywood, rubber, thread, mylar, pumice, and glass, assembling intricate forms that suggest landscapes, glyphs, or artifacts from imagined worlds. His sculptures and paintings are both visually rich and conceptually layered, inviting viewers to uncover meaning within their complexity. He received his BFA in Painting from the College for Creative Studies and continues to create work that is thoughtful, experimental, and deeply rooted in his own evolving language of form.
